This book was read to my sons (ages 5 & 8) a chapter each night before bed and they loved it! The story is engaging but not scary, so it was perfect! My stepdad put them to bed one night & read a chapter to them & was hooked - he read the rest of the book to my youngest son a second time just so he could see what happens. :) That says a lot to me about the quality of this author's work. I highly recommend this book for both boys & girls.

I love Cornelia Funke and am always amazed by her work. This book was different from her others with big illustrations, and a bit of silliness. It was more of a children's book than her others have been, but still had the great themes of bravery and integrity in it. Definitely worth reading.
My 8 year old daughter loved this book. Good for anyone who likes knights and magic. Highly recommend this story.
this is a great adventure tale especially for girls. It is not often that a girl saves the day. This is great fun for everone
This is the third book that I've read by Funke. Good , fun story with a delightful ending. Good for tween readers. Children are the heroes but still respectful to adults and the world around them. Ingraine is the perfect model for a young adventurous girl that likes to read.
This book is so awesome that I buy up copies to keep for birthday presents for my kids' friends. Such a shame it's out of print! Hard to believe they let that happen.
I read this book aloud to my five year old daughter. While I'm fairly certain I enjoyed it more than she did, she loved each chapter and never wanted our reading to end. I laughed out loud on many occasions and thought the storyline was terrific. I highly recommend.
I read this chapter book to my 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son. We all loved it! My son loves knights, and my daughter, though into princesses, could relate to Igraine's chutzpah! Fun characters and some funny, magical antics. The bad characters are mean but not too scary. There are some "big words" in here, possibly due to the translation, but easy enough to explain and a good learning opportunity. We read this as part of a 1st graders' bookclub. It provided some good discussion and questions, like, Why is the sad knight so sad? What does "honor" mean? What does it mean to be a good knight? What does Igraine learn to appreciate about her brother? What does Igraine learn about herself?.... Bottom line we all wish there was a sequel!
