The Perfect Match The Blue Heron Series Kristan Higgins 9780373778195 Books
The Perfect Match by Kristan HigginsThis book in the series is dedicated to Honor with appearances from her sisters: Faith and Patience and Hope.
Her father is seeing Mrs. J and the girls think she's too young for him. She had gotten into a bar fight with Brogan's new girl and now she knows they are getting married and Dana is pregnant.
Her sisters set up an account online for her with the dating sites and she's met a few men, been out for drinks with them and they didn't click. When she's in a jam Tom helps her out with a kiss at the bar so Brogan thinks she's on a date.
It doesn't stop there though and the book describes a hot steamy sex scene.
The book also is following Charlie and others in town. Tom also explains about how he has a stepson that isn't really a stepson at all.... He's very English and I like the translation of some words used.
Tom has now lost his teaching job at the college and the only way he could keep Charlie would be to get a green card by getting married. Honor needs to have a baby as her eggs are not going to be very futile soon because of her age.
Love the tour of the facilities and the process of how to make the wine and talk of the fruit.
Situations occur that lead to everybody doing a turn about...
More tragedy occurs bringing people together...
I received this book from Net Galley via Harlequin HQN in exchange for my honest review.

The Perfect Match The Blue Heron Series Kristan Higgins 9780373778195 Books Reviews
In fairness to Kristan Higgins I enjoy her writing style. She has a talent for writing quirky, interesting characters and a unique narrative writing style that quickly engages her readers.
I like the principle characters of Honor and her unlikely love interest Tom. Honor is a very kind hearted person who cares about her family, friends and generally tries to treat everyone well. Tom is a professor from the U.K. who really cares about the son of the fiancée who was killed. Tom's is the only adult in his stepson's life that has the boy's interest at heart. After the Tom loses his teaching job due to budget cuts, he desperately needs a way to remain in town to look after his stepson.
Honor has been in a very undefined relationship with Brogan her best friend since the end of high school. Brogan strings her along oblivious to the effect it has on Honor. When her doctor tells Honor that she should be mindful of the fact that her biological clock is ticking loudly, Honor brings up the possibility of marriage to Brogan with disastrous results. Brogan's horribly insensitive reply to her shows that he isn't really concerned for her at all.
To make matters worse Honor tells her "best friend" Dana about how much Brogan's response really did hurt. Dana who Honor mistook for a real friend, then immediately starts a relationship with Brogan. A few weeks later Brogan invites Honor to dinner to tell Honor that he and Dana are now engaged and that they want Honor to be "happy" for them.
I enjoyed reading about Honor's quirky family. I enjoyed for the most part the way that Tom steps up to the plate whenever Honor is hurt or needs someone to be there for her. He shows her with actions more so than words what a relationship should be like despite the fact that their relationship stems from an arranged marriage engagement. This arranged marriage engagement is supposed to allow Tom to stay around for his stepson and also allow Honor to have the child that she wants.
What I hated about the book was Dana who was actually a backstabbing envious enemy posing as a friend and Brogan who would be hard pressed to be anymore insensitive or selfish. When he finds out that Dana lied about a pregnancy, he has the nerve to suggest that he and Honor should have a real relationship because he finally realized that Honor was a much better person than Dana. I disliked Dana and Brogan's characters so much that it was very hard to read the sections with anything concerning them.
In a few of her books Ms Higgins has characters with serious boundary issues, that make those particular characters very hard to like or understand their actions.
I do have a list of Kristan Higgins books that are among my favorites such as
Just one of the guys
The next best things
and my absolute favorite of her books is Somebody to Love.
The inclusion of Dana and Brody's characters for me make this book a little less than perfect.
Higgins continues her Blue Heron series with the story of two people who are desperate for marriage, but for different reasons. He wants to stay in the US and she wants to have children.
THE STORY Honor Holland is thirty-five and hears her biological clock ticking. She has had an on again off again things with a man she has known since childhood. When she suggests to him that they should marry, she finally realizes that while she has been thinking he is the one, he has been thinking that she is convenient. Honor is devastated when he ends up with her best friend and they end up engaged and expecting. Honor ends up being set up with Tom Barlow, who is a mechanical engineer professor who is British and looking for a way to stay in the United States to be close to his "almost" stepson with whom he has a difficult relationship. The two have a horrible first date but eventually end up agreeing to a marriage of convenience with the possibility of children if things work out. The two, however, have difficulties communicating and they have a hard time working out their expectations of one another.
OPINION I liked this book because it was funny and complex. The romance is messy and difficult. At the same time, the book is funny and Honor and Tom are wonderful together even though it takes them a long time to get there. I wish there was more about the good times in their relationship because there tends to be a concentration on their difficulties. Despite the obvious fact that the two should be great together, Honor is emotionally needy and Tom is emotionally distant even as he wants to be emotionally engaged. I like Higgins' complex depictions of characters that gives people good and bad qualities and then makes it clear that the choices people make is what is important. The characters are flawed and difficult and sometimes annoying, but are fresh and real and difficult to dislike in the long run. I also liked seeing again the stable of characters that appeared in THE BEST MAN.
WORTH MENTIONING Honor has a dog that makes me laugh. Spike is hysterical and has a great personality. The other thing that I loved was the depiction of how Honor spends her 35th birthday -- getting a gynecological exam. Definitely something one doesn't read about in every book!
FINAL DECISION I liked this book, but I wish there was more good depictions of Honor and Tom's relationship. Their 10 days of happiness are only briefly referred to and instead readers get a lot about the trouble and difficulties in their relationships.
CONNECTED BOOKS This is the second book in the Blue Heron series. It is not necessary to read the first in the series as this operates independently.
STAR RATING I give this book 4 stars.
